With so many diets on the market, and even more coming out every day, it's hard to know which to choose for your weight loss journey. Each diet claims they are the best one and will result in rapid weight loss. Pointing the finger at fats, carbs, or sugar and telling you to eliminate 'this' evil ingredient and all of your problems will be solved.

What the science proves time and time again is that the simple formula for weight loss is calories in versus calories out. To lose weight you must be in a calorie deficit. This means consuming less calories than your body requires in a day. The best way to do this is slow and steady. Rather than cutting out entire food groups, include each food in balance. Having the right amount of protein, carbs, fats, and micronutrients is important for longevity. It is also the most sustainable diet. When traveling, going to a friends house, or eating out at a restaurant it can be nearly impossible for what's on the menu to adhere to every food rule these diets claim you must follow.
If you want to lose weight, focus on the 80/20 rule. Keep whole, unprocessed foods in your home and reserve the desserts and sweet treats for weekends or special occasions. Prioritize daily movement like yoga, cycling, swimming, or even walking! The best diet is one that keeps your body and mind healthy. It doesn't restrict foods or instill fear of weight gain for eating a banana. Instead, it celebrates the nutritional composition of the foods you eat and where they came from. So the next time you find yourself googling, "how to lose weight fast", ask yourself, what is my reason for this? Do I want a healthier lifestyle, or a crash diet for my next vacation? Can I still enjoy my life without worrying about my next meal on this diet? Does this diet demonize whole foods like fruits, grains, and healthy fats? If so, I recommend getting a coach like myself to help guide you through the process of weight loss and finding the right diet for you!
